Deepika Raghu is a final-year undergraduate architecture student. Her research paper on the effects of public infrastructure on the city of Bangalore was accepted for Best Student Paper Award in the Architecture and Civil Engineering Conference, Singapore. Her undergraduate architectural thesis also looked at rethinking metro stations as stations for ‘people’, ceasing to think of them as just technological feats but architectural elements in the urban landscape.
Deepika believes that for countries like India, where the generation of new public space is difficult, such interventions are of paramount importance. Her thesis was in the Top 8 for Asia’s Young Designer Award. Deepika views her role as a future architect as one that is directly dependent on furthering her research to build stronger communities and help develop the public realm in Indian cities.
